The Shack

by William P. Young

The Shack had been hovering on the edges of my to-read list for ages, buoyed by persistent recommendations, so I finally gave it a shot. What I found was less a novel and more a theological manifesto dressed up in parable. The plot, while emotionally anchored, often felt like a vehicle for heavy-handed religious proselytizing rather than organic storytelling. For those less inclined toward overt spiritual messaging, the book can feel like wading through a sermon thinly veiled as fiction. Thoughtful in places, perhaps, but ultimately not my cup of communion wine.
