The Covenant of Water

by Abraham Verghese

The Covenant of Water was a heavy and deeply involved read, weaving together generations of complex family history and rich cultural detail. At times, I found myself easily distracted, perhaps due to the novel’s length and emotional weight, which demanded sustained focus and reflection. Despite this, the writing itself was close to poetic — lush, evocative, and often beautiful enough to pull me back in. It's a book that requires patience but rewards with depth and artistry.
