Listen for the Lie

by Amy Tintera

I have to say Listen for the Lie was a bit of a polarizing experience for me. While I appreciated the thrilling hook, the execution felt like a lot to handle at once. Lucy’s voice is undeniably sarcastic and at times histrionic, which makes for a funny departure from your standard brooding protagonist, but the constant snark occasionally undercut the tension for me. It’s an odd bird of a thriller — part dark mystery, part social satire. I can see why its high-energy production made it an Audie Award winner in 2025, the relentless pace felt a little exhausting to me. It was an interesting, but tiring ride.
