Did Ye Hear Mammy Died?

by Seamas O’Reilly

This is the best book I’ve read all year, it was equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious. The author shares a story of growing up in Northern Ireland after the sudden death of his mother with such honesty, dark humor, and unexpected tenderness that I found myself laughing one moment and choking up the next. It’s a memoir that handles grief and childhood trauma with a light but powerful touch, making it incredibly readable without losing emotional complexity. The voice is vivid and human.
