Audition
by Katie Kitamura
I just finished Audition by Katie Kitamura, and it’s mediocre at best. The prose feels airless, the voice distant, and the narrative drifts without tension. I don’t understand the glowing reviews or hype — and a Booker Prizer nominee at that. The themes are sketched rather than lived, and the emotional core never landed for me. By the end, I was more disengaged than intrigued, wishing for sharper stakes, a pulse, and relatable content.
