The Coddling of the American Mind

by Greg Lukianoff & Jonathan Haidt

This one stayed with me long after I finished it. What I appreciated most about The Coddling of the American Mind its thoughtful examination of how good intentions do not always produce good long-term outcomes, particularly when it comes to parenting, education, and preparing young people for adversity. Haidt and Lukianoff present their arguments in a clear, engaging style that makes complex social and psychological concepts easy to follow without feeling overly academic. I especially enjoyed the numerous real-life examples, which helped ground the ideas in actual experiences rather than abstract theory. Whether or not I agreed with every conclusion, I found it to be a provocative, engaging book that encouraged me to think more critically about resilience, free inquiry, and how we help people grow.
