One True Loves

I really wanted One True Loves to win me over, but it felt a bit too by-the-numbers, complete with an ending that wraps itself up in an almost aggressively tidy bow. The early reveal is undeniably intriguing and pulls you in right away, but oddly, it never quite earns its keep — it feels less like the engine of the story and more like a dramatic twist dropped in for effect. At times, the whole thing leans into a kind of polished, soap-opera logic with big emotional stakes, but not always the depth to back them up. There are still flashes of the emotional insight I expect from Taylor Jenkins Reid, but overall it reads like a predictable outing from a proven, capable author, which made this one feel more disappointing than it probably should have.
