The God of the Woods
by Liz Moore
I stayed engaged with The God of the Woods from start to finish, the central mystery and the slow uncovering of family secrets really kept me reading, but I struggled with how often the narration jumped between characters and timelines, which felt overwhelming and unnecessarily confusing. The story is deliberately multi-threaded, moving across perspectives and years to piece together what happened, and while that ambition is clear, it didn’t always land cleanly for me. I could feel the strength of the idea underneath it all, and there are moments where the tension and atmosphere really work, but the constant shifts pulled me out just as often as they pulled me in. In the end, it felt like a solid attempt and I walked away thinking it could have been sharper, clearer, and more satisfying. I expected more, and honestly, I think readers deserve more too.
