It Ends With Us

by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us is okay, bordering on not terrible, but it leans heavily into melodrama without much subtlety. The emotional weight of the character’s journey is compelling, even though the writing feels simplistic, and the romance lacks nuance. The sex scenes, in particular, are excessive — like Harold Robbins without the anal sex — making the novel feel more indulgent than necessary. While the book tackles important themes of domestic abuse and resilience, its execution is uneven, leaving it more of a surface-level read than a truly impactful one.
