Britt-Marie Was Here
by Fredrik Backman
Fredrik Backman is one of those rare writers who can take utterly ordinary people and make you care deeply about the small, tender details of their lives, and Britt‑Marie Was Here is a perfect example of that gift. Britt‑Marie herself is quirky, earnest, and quietly delightful, and watching her step into a world she never imagined for herself is both heartwarming and lovely. The story is gentle without being saccharine, funny without trying too hard, and full of compassion for people who don’t always fit neatly anywhere. This book made me beam while reading it, and it’s easily one of my favorites in quite a while.
